STATEMENT OF PURPOSE Reviewed June 2014

Woodlands and Hill Brow is a Limited Company and is run from 3 locations; Woodlands, Hill Brow and Hill House.  The aim is to provide its residents with a safe, relaxed and homely environment in which their care, well- being and comfort are our prime concern.  

We provide care at Woodlands and Hill Brow for residents aged 65 + who suffer with mild physical and/or mental conditions.  We do not provide a locked environment so residents must be aware of the dangers outside the homes or be unable to independently access them.  If someone requires a safe environment or nursing care, they will need to go to Hill House which is set in the grounds of Hill Brow.  If they wish, residents should be able to stay at any of the three homes for the rest of their lives.  

Carers will preserve and maintain the dignity, individuality and privacy of all residents within a warm and caring atmosphere, and in so doing will be sensitive to the residents’ ever-changing needs.  Such needs may be medical/therapeutic (for physical and mental welfare), cultural, psychological, spiritual, emotional and social and residents are encouraged to participate in the development of their individualised Service User Plan of Care in which the involvement of family and friends may be appropriate and is greatly valued.  All residents’ physical and mental capacity will be assessed on admission and re-assessed at least on a monthly basis.  

We provide programmes of activities designed to encourage mental alertness, self-esteem, social interaction with other residents and with recognition of core values of care which are fundamental to the philosophy of our homes.  Our core values of care are privacy, dignity, rights, independence, choice, fulfilment, security, respect and equality.  

All care staff working for Woodlands & Hill Brow Ltd are appropriately qualified to deliver the highest standards of care.  A continuous staff-training programme is implemented to ensure that these high standards are maintained in line with the latest initiatives and developments in care practices as may be laid down in appropriate legislation, regulations and the Care Quality Commission (CQC) guidelines.  We comply with the Health & Social Care Act 2008 and follow the Dignity Challenge.  

We actively want to reduce hospital admissions’ for our residents, so will work closely with the residents, G.P.’s, and Next of Kin to promote healthy living.  

We propose to have minimum staffing levels according to the needs of residents: 

 

At Woodlands & Hill Brow

 

16 hours care a week                     Low dependency

18 hours care a week                     Medium dependency

20 hours care a week                     High dependency 

 

At Hill House  

Care per resident a week, including nurse on duty 24 hours.  

Up to 26 hours of care per week              Low dependency

Up to 31.5 hours of care per week           Medium dependency

Over 31.5 hour of care per week             High dependency

 

Complaints Procedure  

In the event of residents, relatives or staff having cause for complaint it is our policy that they should find it easy to do so. The home welcome’s complaints and looks upon them as an opportunity to learn, adapt, improve and better our service. Our procedures are intended to ensure that complaints are dealt with properly and that all complaints or comments are taken seriously. The home supports the principle that most complaints, if dealt with early, openly and honestly, can be sorted at a local level between the complainant and the organisation. If this fails due to the complainant being dissatisfied with the results, the organisation will respect the right of the complainant to take the complaint to the next level.
