EMERGENCY RELEASE PROCEDURE FOR  LIFT (Hill Brow – Brown Lift)

TO BE CARRIED OUT IN THE EVENT OF PERSONS TRAPPED IN LIFT

Always reassure trapped persons and warn them to stay clear of the car doors, especially if open or partly open and not to leave the lift until advised that it is safe to do so.

SWITCH OFF main electrical supply (Large grey switch on wall above pump unit).

At the top of the pump is a large red push button.  Push this button down firmly against the spring tension and the hydraulic fluid will be heard returning to the tank.  The lift will gradually lower down the shaft at a very slow speed depending on where the lift had originally stopped. The pressure on the lowering button may therefore have to be applied for a minute or so until the noise of the oil returning stops.

A small door release key with a triangular end is provided and this should be inserted into the landing door release mechanism above the doors on the underside and turned slightly against spring pressure to release the lock.  At the same time the doors should be pulled sideways apart.  It would assist if a person trapped inside the lift could also assist with pulling on the doors at the same time.

PLEASE NOTE:  The lift after lowering may not be exactly level with the floor and the persons released from the lift should be made aware of this.  If the lift needs to be raised slightly, simply raise the front of the pump cover and hinge lid back to wall.  Inside the tank is a silver coloured handle approximately 18 inches long.  Using free end of this handle, keep pushing up and down steadily against oil pressure and the lift will raise slightly on each stroke.

Advise any occupants when it is safe to vacate the lift.

The lift should be left switched off and the lift engineers should be notified.
