The theme for March was ‘Spring Celebrations’ befitting the abundance of spring flowers that were in bloom. March also saw St. David’s Day, Mother’s Day and the Easter celebrations. Here there are some of the activities our residents have been up to:

We celebrated St. David’s Day with all things Welsh and an interesting Welsh quiz. Some residents attended the Committee meeting as well during the morning. In the afternoon all of us enjoyed Welsh music from the likes of Welsh born crooner Tom Jones and Shirley Bassey. ‘Singing for the Brain’ monthly session took place the following day continuing the Welsh mood with some seasonal songs.

On Friday 4th a group of residents embarked on an early spring trip to Badshot Lea Garden Centre. They loved seeing all the spring flowering bulbs now in flower as well as all the small animals and fish in the aquaria. We did not leave without having tea, coffee and biscuits in the restaurant.

On 5th we welcomed for the very first time a young harpist called Lexi who delighted the residents with a lovely performance. We are excited to be making this a regular event across all three homes in the future.

We celebrated Mothering Sunday with a special service of thanks giving. This included some hymns and favourites such as ‘Amazing Grace’ played by our very own Louis on the piano.

On 9th we travelled by taxi to Ellisfield Church to see the beautiful carpet of snowdrops that covered the church yard this time every year. Residents enjoyed an impromptu picnic in the taxi with tea, coffee and biscuits before driving back through the pretty lanes just in time for lunch.

‘Singing for fun’ was a big event on 16th March when a large group of singers, accompanied by a pianist and at times a cellist, performed for us. Residents were encouraged to sing along to some old favourites and fun action songs such as ‘He’s got the Whole World in his Hands!’

For the St. Patrick’s celebrations Roger provided a very special performance for our residents.  Many got up and danced, and sang along to some old favourites. We finished with some lovely Irish themed iced green and orange cupcakes.

On the first day of spring residents across the home participated in helping to plant a spring flowering tub with a tree. Two days later, on Good Friday, a few gentlemen enjoyed a drink at the local Tweseldown pub, thoroughly enjoying the opportunity, ahead of the Easter weekend.

Our annual Easter Bonnets Parade was on Bank holiday Monday 28th with a fantastic surprise visit from Alison. Residents showed off their beautiful hats and prizes for their effort and creativity. The party continued with a lively dance performance by some of the staff, followed by more music and tea.
