The month of December at Hill House has been absolutely packed with activities, crafts, guest singers and performers, trips out and families visiting.
The home looked wonderful with seven Christmas trees, covered in decorations and lights and many hand-made decorations and cards crafted by our lovely residents.
We started the month and the week with Arts and Crafts Club. We all made a wide variety of hand-made cards ready to pack for our charity fund raiser later in the month.
The adorable Beavers Club came to sing for us on the 3rd. Afterwards they chatted with the residents and handed out small gifts.
Wednesday the 4th our Cooking and Baking Club made their first batch of festive mince pies. These were decorated with festive items like snowflakes, Santa’s and bells. We enjoyed some of them later with a cup of tea.
The Greyhound Rescue Club visited in the afternoon with 2 of their lovely dogs, which the residents enjoy to fuss over.
On Thursday the 5th, we did a bit more scrapbooking as part of our Arts and Crafts Club. It is a lot of fun to look through all the things we’ve done over the last few weeks.
Before lunch, we played all sorts board games with the activities team and the Carer’s.
Eric Glover played the piano and sang for us in the afternoon. He is a new entertainer to our home and everyone really enjoyed his compilation.
We had a trip out to Bagshot Lea on Friday morning. There were Christmas decorations and lights everywhere you looked. Afterwards, we enjoyed a much needed cup of tea and a cake in their café.
On Friday after pamper morning for the ladies and games for the men.
Our friends from Woodlands and Hill Brow joined us to watch one of our favourite performers Gareth.
We continued our Christmas preparations on Monday with Christmas Card making.
In the afternoon we got out the reminiscing activity boxes. The are always a good talking point for residents and staff.
Tuesday the 10th we put the finishing touches on the cupcakes for the Fund-Raising cake sale in the afternoon.
The stalls were full with lots of cakes and interesting donated items for sale! It was a success, as we raised over £260 for Families Supporting Care. We all wore Christmas Jumpers which was great fun to see!
Our Movement Class on Wednesday the 11 was balloon bounce. This activity always brings out lots of laughter.
The Dominoes Club is still going strong and we had a session on the 12th.
In the afternoon a Magician: Natalia Love did a very lively show for us. She very cleverly brings everyone in to her act.
We loved our trip out on Friday morning to the garden centre. One of our favourite things to do is looking at the pet section.
The Carillian Singers put on a Christmas Concert on Friday afternoon. The activities handed around the musical instruments so we could all join in with the melodies.
The home is looking so lovely and homely with all of the decorated Christmas trees, it seems almost everywhere you look. It is starting to feel a lot like Christmas!
Monday morning the 16th our little furry friends Alison’s goat came for a visit. They just bring a smile to your face when you see them.
After which for our Movement Session, we had a game of skittles.
Our Interactive Activity Centre is almost always in use somewhere in the home. It is fantastic how there are just so many different applications to it.
The St Nicolas School Orchestra put on an excellent concert for everyone.
On Tuesday our regular Pet Therapy visitors came around the home to say hello to everyone.
On Wednesday the 18th, in our Arts and Crafts Class we made our Christmas Hats in preparation for our home Christmas Dinner.
A big thank you to all the kitchen staff and everyone our Christmas Dinner was brilliant!
After lunch we had a really up lifting Carol singing session together.
On the 19th some of us had a trip out to watch the Panto at Princess Hall Aldershot with some friends from Woodlands. They do put on a fantastic show!
During the morning we had a relaxing morning playing board games.
While in the afternoon we had the talented Prof. Andrew Knight perform.
On Friday the 20th as after our movement session the Garden View used the Interactive Activity Centre to play games.
In the afternoon the amazingly energetic Jonti Duo got us all singing and playing along with our instruments. While several of us just couldn’t resist a dance.
Christmas Day is just around the corner and on Monday the 23rd we had a game of play your cards right
And some of the ladies had their nails done ready for visits with family for Christmas day.
On Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day were wonderful with so many visitors of family and friends all around the home.
There was lots of celebrations and gifts to open.
After a relaxing morning, Ray Martin performed on the afternoon of the 27th.
To finish off the month we had a bit more of a relaxing atmosphere after such a busy month with some crafts as we prepared for New Year!
