A New Year and new beginnings!

After a December packed full of trips out, guest entertainers and celebrations, it was time to settle into the New Year. We had all our favourite inhouse activities: dominos, giant crossword, word search, musical bingo and quizzes.

Balloon bounce and our seated exercise classes were back in full swing. Just some of the activities we enjoy so much.

Our brilliant Day Centre has also been busy with our regular Tea mornings with delicious fresh homemade cakes, teas and coffee. What better start to the day.

On Wednesday 9th January we had an interesting afternoon learning about and getting to taste a variety of unusual fruit; such as mangos, kiwi fruits, various melons and pomegranates. Apparently, pomegranates are especially good for you.

On Friday 11th January we would normally have gone on our usual pub outing but we decided on this occasion to bring the pub to us. We enjoyed a morning supping sherry and eating cakes. There was plenty of chatting and putting the world to rights.

Later that day, after lunch we engrossed ourselves in another session of musical bingo. With chocolates as the prize it is always very competitive.

On the 16th of January we had one of our regular word association quizzes. Which our residents always enjoy.

Friday the 18th January we joined by the Day Centre for a Sherry morning and nibbles and later in the afternoon we had an enjoyable sing-a-long with many of our favourites.

On the 22nd January Alison visited with her cuddly pigmy goats.

The home was really rocking when a rock choir came to sing for us on Thursday 24th January. It was a lovely party atmosphere and our friends came from Hillbrow and Woodlands to enjoy it with us. Many got up to dance or sang along their seats.

Friday 25th January was Burns Night. We have been building towards it all month with our display of Scottish memorabilia on the main table. We were joined in the afternoon by many of our friends from Hillbrow and Woodlands to celebrate in all things Scottish. The staff dressing in tartan clothing and danced a jig for us. This was followed by crumbly shortbread and a wee dram of Walkers Scotch Whisky.

The final event of the month was on Thursday 31st January. Alison brought in her cute, cuddly pygmy goats to see all of the residents. These new arrivals to the Alison menagerie are a big hit in all the homes and everyone looks forward to feeding them and holding them. They are very soft and friendly.
