Egg-stravagant Easter Week with Hair Dressing and Pampering too at Hill House

Easter is classically a religious holiday, as it celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Other traditions generally included in the celebrating of it, including the Easter bunny and the giving of chocolate eggs.
The story of the Easter Bunny is thought to have become common in the 19th Century. Rabbits usually give birth to a big litter of babies (called kittens), so they became a symbol of new life. Legend has it that the Easter Bunny lays, decorates and hides eggs as they are also a symbol of new life.
We started off the week making chocolaty Easter nest cakes decorated with mini eggs, for our upcoming Easter Tea Parties.

Monday afternoon we got creative in Art Club we made colourful stain glass window decoration to hang on the windows and with the sun shining it created lovely coloured shadows on the floor.

In the afternoon our Easter Tea Party on Garden View had lots of yummy cakes and treats baked by our chef and made during the mornings cooking club.

Because outside visitors are not allowed but many of our residents enjoy having their hair washed and blow dried, some our fabulously multi-talented Activities Team did a brilliant job of turning their hands to hairstyling. We are thrilled with the results!

We had an enjoyable afternoon at our Musical Tea Party on Tuesday afternoon. After filling up on freshly baked cakes and lots of tea or coffee we had a great time sing songs from the song sheets and the home was filled with music and fun.

The sunny weather on Wednesday brought about a lot of conversation about holidays and places we have visited around the world. We loved sharing pictures and postcards we have kept with each other and our stories.

Our new resistance bands are great we love using them in our weekly exercise class.

We are still loving receiving all your lovely cards, letters and art work that have been flooding in, it brings us great joy and lots of smiles and laughter.

Wednesday afternoon we got active with a variety of physical exercise, ball games, football, and balloon bounce.

The afternoon continued as we answered quiz questions on the interactive activity centre, we took it in turns to throw the bean bag and try and get it to land on the correct answer.

Thursday morning stroll around the gardens here at Hill House we have enjoyed seeing the change in the seasons and the leaves and blooms.

The weather has been so sunny and bright we are enjoying sitting out on the patio doing our daily activities.

We took delivery of a beautifully crocheted ‘Unity Rainbow’ very kindly made by former colleague Jackie. This is displayed along side our ‘Unity Heart Rainbow’ at the front of our home, each heart has a resident or staff members name, these are display with positive hope for better times in the future.

A hot cross bun is a spiced sweet bun made with currants or raisins, marked with a cross on the top, and traditionally eaten on Good Friday. The eating of hot cross buns marks the end of Lent because they are made with dairy products which are forbidden during this period. We enjoyed ours toasted with butter and / or Jam.

We took our daily activities out into the sunshine and enjoyed getting creative ready for Easter weekend, we made and decorated bunting.

Friday afternoon we hand wrote our Easter cards to friends and family ready to post.

On Friday afternoon we got out the board games and puzzles.

Staff have been working with us using video communication tools such as Skype to keep in touch with our family members and have been working so hard to help us get to grips with new technologies and we have been surprised by how quickly everyone has picked it up.

Saturday morning, we noticed the plants looked a little thirsty we got out into the sunshine and gave them a good watering, we pulled off any dead heads and got the pots back looking their best.

Other residents got creative making an Easter photo frame for our Easter photo shoot, using different materials and fabrics we created a bright colourful frame.

Saturday afternoon was a time for reflection and an opportunity to come together as we enjoyed a Virtual Easter service on the big screen and sung along to the hymns. The Easter service is an important service for many of our residents as It commemorates Jesus Christ’s resurrection from death.

We have embraced Easter this year, enjoying a wide range of activities and celebrations. From Easter crafting to Virtual Easter service, everyone involved had a wonderful time!
Hill House activities team went all out this Easter Sunday to ensure that residents had two very special visitors, the Easter Bunny and a Spring Chicken joined Alison as they delivered chocolatey goodness to one and all.

We finished off our Easter celebrations with a High Tea on the patio, the chef and her team got very creative baking a fabulous Easter bunny cake, and mini cakes for us to enjoy with our friends.

For our Easter photoshoot, we enjoyed getting a little pampered before posing while holding our Easter photo frame we made. We want to wish all our family and friends a very happy Easter!
