Highlights of the last two months at Hill House

‘Time flies when you are having fun’, as they say, and here we are in December again. While our residents are very busy having fun with all our Christmas events, here is what they were up to during October and November.

‘Harvest’ was the theme of October, reflecting the time of the year when our farmers are busy gathering in and finishing the harvest. Along with visits to Redfields Garden Centre and the Tweseldown Pub, our residents enjoyed a seasonal autumn ‘Cheese and Wine Tasting’ Party. Two not to miss mentioning were the Harvest countrey-themed party with Barry, and of course the Halloween Trick ‘n Treat party with the lovely young witches, our staff’s children 🙂

A special 103rd Birthday party was also celebrated at Hill House in October. Eileen Thomas was surrounded by family and staff, and as you can see on the photos, she thoroughly enjoyed herself.

November was ‘Remembrance Month’ reflecting the sacrifice of so many men and women  during all the wars and conflicts in history. To honour them, we as usual acknowledged the two minute silence at 11am on November 11th,  and then during the afternoon of that same day, we took a nostalgic but upbeat trip down memory lane, singing some of the best loved songs of the war period, dressed in forties style attire! As well as that we celebrated Guy Fawkes night with our very own firework display.

Robert May’s School in Odiham hosted another wonderful Christmas Tea Dance for our residents on 28th November. Father Christmas with his little helper made a surprise early visit bringing a small gift to the partygoers.

The following evening, a group of boys from the Odiham Beavers paid a visit to the home. Our residents were delighted to hear their stories and look at their favorite toys. The boys also sang some songs to entertain the residents, accompanied by Vicar Tara from Crondall Parish.

And to finish off the month, the cherry on the cake was Fleet’s Rock Choir visiting on 30th November.  They performed a selection of upbeat songs that got everyone singing and in some cases even dancing along!! The performance finished with the Shakin’ Stevens classic ’Merry Christmas Everyone!’ helping us get into the Christmas spirit.
