HILL HOUSE NURSING HOME events diary DECEMBER 2018 – The Month of Joy and Celebration

The first main event this month was on Tuesday 4th December, when the Crondall Beavers children came to sing carols for us in the evening. They really were in fine voice as were the residents and volunteers. After the concert the boys and girls came around to the residents and showed them their toys and photographs and presented some Christmas cards. It really was a delightful evening.

On Wednesday 5th December some residents had a wonderful time out at the Fleet Lions Christmas carol concert at the Elvetham Heath church. This was an excellent show as it is every Christmas.

As well as all the Festive music and dancing. The residents of Hill House visited their favourite local pub The Wyvern every Friday morning for a catch up.

Professor Andrew Knight and his wife come every year to give ups a wonderful Christmas concert with clarinet and violin recitals. This year was no exception and they came to Hill House on Friday 7th December. The main lounge was packed with many of our residents and many from Hill Brow and Woodlands. The show was preceded by Ken from Woodlands giving us a wonderful jazz recital on the piano while everybody was settling for the main event. The show was spectacular as usual, with the performers coming close to the residents and amusing everybody all round. What a wonderful time we had!!!

We had a wonderful impromptu time in the afternoon of Wednesday 12th December when the staff, all suitably dressed for ‘dress up day’ and the cake sale to raise fund for our favourit charity Families Supporting Care. The staff then gave a short carol concert followed by Anu and Jay Jay giving a dancing display.

We joined Woodlands residents for a trip out to see the Christmas lights. They are really wondrous to view how much work people put in.

On Friday 14th December the Carillion singers from Badshot Lea came in the evening to give their annual Christmas carol singing concert. As always, they were excellent and a large audience, including visitors from Woodlands and Hill Brow, enjoyed some really lovely singing.

For those who wanted to do something else or just wanted to join in we still held our regular quiz’s, Giant crossword, dominoes and flower arranging.

The residents’ annual Christmas lunch was held on Wednesday 19th December. An excellent traditional meal produced by Jade and her staff was much appreciated by all residents and guests alike. After the meal Santa Claus arrived with one of his elf helpers and gave everyone a Christmas present. After this Ray Martin came to play his guitar and sing Christmas carols and other music. The staff also led a general sing along of some of the well-known Christmas carols. A great afternoon was had by all.

In the afternoon of Friday 21st December we were entertained by some of the staffs’ children who gave us a violin recital of Christmas music and a dance display. The residents were enthralled and the children drew much applause.

On Saturday 22nd December Gracie the patting dog, all dressed up in Santa kit, came to see the residents and wish them all a happy Christmas. She is always very popular and is a real favourite among those who visit us regularly.

Bell ringers came from a local church on Sunday 23rd December to bring a different slant on Christmas carols. This approach was much appreciated by the residents and they certainly got everyone singing.

The festive month came to a close with a final concert from our favourite singers the ‘Jonti Duo’ who got us singing and dancing again as they always do on Friday 28th December.
