January’s Activities at Hill House
January’s theme was ‘Welcome New Year Scottish Style’ celebrating Burns night and the New Year with all things Scottish, culminating in a tea party with traditional Scottish dancing on Friday 29th January. Over the course of the month there were also discussions, reminiscence and quizzes all with a Scottish theme.
On Wednesday 6th residents from all 3 homes enjoyed singing and moving to Barbara in the ‘Singing for the brain’ monthly session, as usual followed by lovely tea and cake.
Friday 15th January was marked by a Garden Centre Trip. A group of residents enjoyed a trip to lovely Badshot Lea Garden Centre. It was a bright, frosty morning, but residents were wrapped up well against the cold before embarking. They thoroughly enjoyed the outing, especially the animals and aquaria in the pet centre. Some relatives also accompanied the group. Afterwards the residents from all three homes enjoyed tea, coffee and biscuits in the delightful restaurant.
On Wednesday 27th Hill House residents joined others at Woodlands for the Big Charity Quiz event. There were many teams, including two from Hill House, ‘The Pretenders’ and ‘In it to win it.’ It was eventually won by a team called (ironically!) ‘I don’t know!!’
On Friday 29th January a group of residents joined other residents from Hill Brow and Woodlands at the Tweseldown Pub. They all enjoyed tea, coffee, beer and wine and had a good chat and a laugh, over a blazing fire!!
During the afternoon the three homes came together at Hill House to celebrate Burns Night and all things Scottish. Residents enjoyed a Scottish sword dance, kilts an’ all and much Scottish musical merriment. Later residents sang along to Mull of Kintyre, Amazing grace, Auld Lang Sine and other well-known Scottish songs, accompanied by Louis on the piano. Residents enjoyed tea, cakes and traditional Scottish shortbread.
