This week at Hill House has been a fabulous opportunity to explore our European neighbours in Germany. With taste bud tingling beer tasting, our Oktoberfest party and the ever-growing popular themed bingo games.
Monday morning, we engaged in our daily exercises in the day lounge
In the afternoon we created greetings cards, painted stunning water colour cards and used our card stock to make birthday cards using stickers and mottos.
Inspired by the upcoming Oktoberfest party we spent the afternoon creating alpine hats and embellished them with feathers, flags and other German images.
Tuesday morning our cooking club gathered in garden view lounge, we mixed and kneaded our dough, ready to make German inspired soft pretzels.
Our brain training game saw us generate many smaller words from the word OKTOBERFEST. Brain exercises provide a simple way to improve our memory and problem-solving skills.
An incredible afternoon on Tuesday, we were treated to an Oktoberfest beer tasting experience with German Beers, scoring each beer on its aroma, appearance, and taste before giving an overall rating. The themed music got everyone in the spirit for dancing and gigging.
Some residents in garden view enjoyed playing ludo together and others played German picture pairs. Memory games for residents are not only interesting and entertaining, but also improve memory, daily life skills, and overall mental health.
Wednesday morning, we hosted our monthly residents meeting in the day lounge with guest appearance from Tinkerbell, who is doing well in her PAT dog training.
Wednesday afternoon, our beer tasting experience was hosted in our garden view lounge. The gentlemen sat together chatting enjoying their beers.
Our bowls game helps to improve muscle strength (arm, shoulder, leg muscles), flexibility and endurance.
Thursday morning, flower arranging club arranged this week’s flowers into vases ready to be displayed around the home.
Thursday afternoon we had an incredible time, staff and volunteers joined us for an Oktoberfest party we will never forget.
The talented Natalia played our favourite party songs on her accordion, encouraging everyone to be up and dancing, the music enticed others into the lounge, even management found the party atmosphere too good to miss out on joining the party to our delight.
Friday morning, we enjoyed a morning of skittles.
It was an honour for us to celebrate this incredible couple on their 50th Wedding Anniversary, with a special lunch followed by tea trolley with incredible cake.
Saturday morning, we played German Bingo a great game that brings everyone together.
Bingo can help seniors maintain hand to eye coordination. It is a fast-paced game that requires players to mark their cards as numbers are called.
We also watched German landmark documentaries on iPads.
Followed by art and crafting alpine hat folding.
Saturday afternoon, we loved taking part in armchair travel, our passports are filling up nicely as we have now travelled all over the world. Today was such fun as we jetted off to Germany as part of our Oktoberfest themed week.
We laughed at the inflight safety demonstration, as our activities team talked everyone through a humorous emergency landing!! Following by themed drinks; German lagers and soft drinks.
Then we watched a short travel documentary, while enjoying yummy German snacks of hard pretzels, chocolate softees and black forest gateaux.
The group quiz saw, staff and families come together to answer as many of the German questions as possible. Wherever will we travel too next?!! ✈️
