This week residents have made an extra effort to help around the home, from polishing the silver and brass to folding the laundry. We hosted a special tea party for our house keeping team, with an impromptu speech from a resident thanking the staff for everything they do, it was a heart-warming moment and highlighted what this weeks theme was all about.

Monday morning, we kicked off our house keeping week with a stint in the laundry helping fold the sheets and towels ready for the day. Tasks like laundry folding are an important part of activities of daily life, for most of us these are household jobs we have done for years and enjoy doing.

The garden view lounge spent the morning polishing the silver and brass, while chatting about housework and DIY jobs.

That afternoon, our music therapy sessions started in our garden view lounges, with one to one sessions embracing the power of music.

The ladies got together to craft stunning Valentine cards in our day lounge.

Tuesday morning, we played a fun new maths card game in our garden view lounge, while others explored the rummage area and fidget boards. The day lounge hosted our monthly residents meeting with directors and managers over a hot drink and a slice of yummy cake.

An incredible start to our Woodlands & Hillbrow Choir hosted at Hill House on Tuesday afternoon. With all 4 of our homes coming together to embrace the power of music and song for this closed-door practice session. Residents loved the cheery warm up song “Mary Mac” it was the perfect ice breaker for the group, it saw everyone relax and come together to belt out our hand-picked songs today.

Songs requested for next practice have been noted down and we can’t wait to see this choir bloom as the months go by.

Elsewhere the same afternoon a very special lady celebrated her birthday with friends and family around her.

Stunning daffodils were delivered to the home, we spent time arranging them into vases. Upon receiving their bouquets, everyone showed instant joy with big smiles.

Wednesday morning, we hand decorated wine bottles using the decoupage method to create stunning stained glass window effects, ready to adorn the dining tables on Valentine’s Day.

During the art session we reminisced about living in America, riding horses and wanting to be a cowboy for the day.

A fantastic time building and painting bird feeders in our garden view lounge. We loved building the feeders while chatting about what feed is best at this time of year, before coming together to hand paint the feeders bright colours to help attract the wildlife and birds.

That afternoon, our happy housekeeper’s week included a fabulous “House Keeping Appreciation Tea Party”. Where we hosted for our incredible housekeeping team as guests of honour at a Tea Party.

It was a delightful atmosphere with one resident giving a thank-you speech, as well as the home manger thanking the team for all the hard work they put in every day.

Thursday morning we enjoyed a 1980’s disco music session in our garden view lounge, with some fun disco moves to get everyone warmed up before playing along to the beat with a variety of instruments.

Others engaged in their past time of knitting, showing and helping staff to do line stitches.

Our day lounge spent time catching up on the news in our daily newspapers, others relaxed while visiting the hairdressers for a set and time to relax.

The afternoon started with our weekly floristry club gathering to arrange our stunning floral delivery, this was followed by a group game of “Cleaning Bingo.”

Whilst the social benefits are hugely important, studies have proven that, playing bingo helps keep the mind sharp, and improves hand-eye coordination.

With a beautiful blue sky we went into the garden to hear the birds sing and enjoy the crisp fresh air.

Friday morning, and continuing with our House Cleaning Week, we spent the morning cleaning brass goblets and jugs.. Brass is a material that has been used by ancient civilizations and modern-day people alike due to its durability, elegance, and malleability.

Saturday morning our ladies sat together painting stunning scenery pictures in the day lounge, others made a fashion collage from magazines before settling into a great game of dominoes.
