Last month’s theme was ‘Eggs and Dragons’ reflecting the Easter celebration and St. Georges day. These two events alone meant we did enjoy another busy and active month in Hill House.
One of the highlights was Good Friday. In the morning on 14th April a group of residents, some accompanied by their relatives, visited the Wyvern Public House for an Easter drink at the pub! They met with residents from both Hill Brow and Woodlands and enjoyed a chat and a laugh. As well as sherry, beer and wine they enjoyed fresh coffee, tea, and biscuits.
In the afternoon residents met in the main lounge for the Easter Bonnet Parade and competition. Residents donned their bonnets, complete with chicks, eggs, ducks, bunnies, ribbons and spring flowers while enjoying a lively sing-a-long to some favourites. Prizes were awarded for best bonnet collaboration, best team effort, and best individual bonnet overall.
On the morning of Friday 21st April was our Redfields Garden Centre visit. It was a bright and sunny, if somewhat cold day. One resident was surprised and very happy to meet his wife at the entrance, having not been told she was going to be there. The residents particularly enjoyed the beautiful exotic orchids and colourful spring shrubs outside in the nursery. Following this the residents met with other residents from both Hill Brow and Woodlands and enjoyed a chat over tea, coffee and biscuits in the lovely restaurant.
On Monday 24th April residents from across all three homes welcomed back Nev and Claire for a St. George’s celebration sing-a-long party. With activity leaders wearing striking red and white, residents enjoyed their lively dancing as they sang along to favourites such as ‘My Old Man’, ‘Wish me Luck as you Wave Me Goodbye’ and ‘When Father Painted the Parlour’ amongst other well-known, traditional British songs. Residents were in good voice as they both sang and clapped along. Following this, residents enjoyed a lovely iced cake with St. George’s red and white strips, along with tea and coffee.
We also had the Charity Quiz Night in the evening of Tuesday 25th April which took place at Hill Brow. There were 11 teams competing and it was a very competitive night, despite some tricky questions, eventually the team called ‘No Idea’ won. Competitors also enjoyed refreshments and the charity raffle as part of the quiz evening, which raised £700 for ‘Family Supporting Care’.
Lastly, a group of residents travelled by taxi to Ellisfield to see the Bluebell woods on Wednesday 26th April. The residents appreciated a picturesque journey through the pretty country lanes to reach Farleigh Woods near Ellisfield. This year the Bluebells seemed even more beautiful than ever and the residents absolutely loved seeing them.
