As well and the usual weekly outings to our favourite pubs, gardens centres and guest entertainers coming in to see us, we also had several marvellous new activity items including this wonderful interactive activity machine, which can be used anywhere in our home.
On the 1st our lovely residents decorated biscuits. Lots of residents enjoyed getting involved. They went down well with a lovely cup of tea in the afternoon.
On Wednesday the 2nd we chose skittles as our active session in the morning. While in the afternoon we played musical bingo and dominoes.
Every week we receive 3 large buckets of beautiful fresh flowers, which our talented residents arrange in bouquets and vases. These are then displayed around the home.
On the afternoon of the 4th our very talented Louis came and played the piano for us. Some of the relative’s husbands lead us in a very enjoyable sing along.
In the morning on the 4th we had an outing to the new café at Morrisons for a catch up, a cuppa and a cake.
That afternoon Terry Owen came and sang for us and our friends from Woodlands. He has a very good section of ballads which he encourages us to sing along too and he always hands out single yellow roses for the ladies, who love him all the more for it.
Monday the 7th started the day with one on one time with residents, the carers and activities team. This is such a good time for residents to really bond with the members of staff.
It was also Elma’s birthday! We really enjoy celebrating and singing Happy Birthday with a freshly baked cake.
After lunch we got the board games and puzzles out. One of our games from our reminiscing box is the Shove Ha’ penny games. These are a firm favourite with the residents.
For our Pet Therapy this week, the Greyhound Lifeline Centre visited. These beautiful dogs are also very good natured.
On Wednesday the 9th after our weekly Church Service with Rev. Tara we played balloon bounce which can bring out a little friendly competition.
Friday the 11th our trip out was to Bagshot Lea Garden Centre. Everyone was getting in the mood for preparing for Halloween at the end of the month. After a wonder around the displays we stopped in the café for Tea and Cake.
The Quiz topic on the 14th was Halloween and it prompted lots of chatter.
In the afternoon during the one to one session, some residents had a pamper with manicures and hand massages.
On the 15th the Activities Team had a rummage through the reminiscing boxes and dressed up to show off the wonderful array of hats.
The Cooking Club made pizzas, with their personal choice of toppings on Wednesday the 16th.
In the afternoon the Art Group chose to do colouring. Vera shows off her artwork.
Fridays are always busy with an outing in the morning. This time to a tea room and in the afternoon Gareth came to sing for us. He has an upbeat selection that we can’t resist getting up and dancing to.
On Monday the 21st we started our preparations for Halloween. The first Arts and Crafts class was making Spiders to be displayed on our Halloween themed Sensory table.
In the afternoon we played ball games including skittles.
We had an interesting class on the 22nd with the activities team, when we had an exotic fruit tasting event. We tried fruit from all of the world.
Continuing with our Halloween prepartations on the 23rd we designed and painted our own pumpkins.
While on Thursday the 24th we decorated witches and wizards hats.
After our morning trip out to Redfield’s, Natasha came to sing for us in the main lounge. We were joined by our friends from Hill Brow, Garden View and Woodlands.
Monday started fairly laid back with a colouring in the Art Club activity.
In the afternoon Alison brought in her goats to spend some time with the residents. They always bring a smile and a giggle with their antics.
In the afternoon we had our Halloween Trick or Treat Party. We invited resident’s grandchildren and the staff brought in their children to celebrate. There were lots of games to play and the residents gave out treats they had made up into bags, for all of the children.
The new sensory table with all of its creative applications has been a huge hit with the residents and their families.
On the evening we had our regular quiz. On this occasion it was hosted by Hill House. The quiz is just one of the events we hold to raise funds for the Charity Families Supporting Care. Thanks to all of the families, residents and staff who participated we raised £700. The winning team all got a bottle of wine.
On Wednesday, our reminiscing section included pets and animals. It was good to chat about past pets and what their favourite animals is, with the residents.
Then, to cap off the month, in the morning we visited Redfield’s Garden Centre. After a walk around looking at the display’s, we had a drink and a slice of cake in their lovely Tea Room.
Paul Tickner from Memory Lane performed for us after lunch.
And there was still time to enjoy some time on the on the sensory projector.
