This week at Hill House residents have been indulging in ales and tales. With fabulously fun traditional pub games, from beer pong to pub quizzes. Residents loved the interactive beer cart with our very own pint-sized server.

Monday morning, we played pub themed card games like rummy. Playing card games can help improve memory, concentration and cognitive skills, and even prevent or delay the effects of cognitive decline. Simple games can keep seniors with dementia engaged and mentally active. The social aspects of card games can also give seniors a much-needed social outlet.

Monday afternoon, enthused by this week’s theme Ales & Tales, we have loved playing a new game inspired by Beer pong. The game was adapted so we took it in turns to build up a score by bouncing balls into cups, each cup scores different points.

Tuesday morning, we had so much fun taking part in our name the pub quiz. It sparked many conversations about our local pub and what we would name a pub here at Hill House.

It was so lovely to see the younger generation visiting loved one and enjoying cuddles.

We also enjoyed visits from a group of 4 legged friends who came to visit.

Tuesday afternoon, pub bingo was hosted in the day lounge, it was so nice for us all to come together. Bingo can help to improve cognition and can help stimulate memory and thought processes for patients in varying stages of memory loss.

Wednesday morning, we engaged in a fun game of dominoes.

A fun early morning activity on Thursday for some of us early raisers, we took part in activities of daily life. Lending our activities team a helping hand, by getting things organised for activities. Cutting out sign’s banners and images for this afternoon’s Interactive cart.

After our morning tea social our flower arranging club enjoyed a relaxing morning of floral arranging.

Pub brain training games and puzzles serve as a mental exercise that reduces the risk of Alzheimer’s disease and cognitive decline. Brain exercises provide a way to improve your memory and problem-solving skills.

In our garden view lounge, we listened to rock and roll music and engaged in pub themed therapeutic painting and colouring, others opted for walks in the garden and completing pub themed brain training games.

That afternoon Our interactive Beer Cart rolled around the home, with its very own pintsized helper. Our interactive carts provide an opportunity for light entertainment, singing, dancing and a smidge of comedy while visiting everyone who welcomes it into their rooms and in the lounges.

Today’s cart tied in with our Ales & Tales week and international beer day. As it offered us a wide selection of beers, ales, larger and accompanied with a good old fashioned pub singalong; my old mans a dustman, Lambeth walk could be heard all through the home.

Friday morning, arts and crafts club, varnished our beautiful hand painted garden ladybird decorations ready to go up around our gardens, others opted to design their own pub names and signs.

Historical records show that in the year 1908 a pub owner in the town of Leeds was taken to court for allowing his customers to play darts in his establishment, this exploded the sport across England. Inspired by this long-standing tradition in our garden view lounge we competed in our very own darts competition.

We also spent time tending to our garden plants and relishing the sunshine. We also spent one to one time playing Bananagram.

That afternoon we welcomed our fabulous singer Terry back for an afternoon of partying in the day lounge.

We sang and danced the afternoon away to some of our favourite songs, sweet Caroline never fails to get everyone up.

Saturday morning, we took on the British pub name picture quiz in our garden view lounge, as well as board games and jigsaw puzzles.

Our memory bag game brought lots of laughter as we had to try and guess what was in the bag by using our sense of touch, encouraged to feel it, roll it in our hands and imagine what it might be.

Our Sunday church service was streamed across the home and on iPads for those who wished to attend, others spent their morning reading the daily newspaper and engaging in group socials.

The afternoon we took walks in the garden and picked herbs and berries from our kitchen garden, ready for chef to make us a berry crumble.
