This week at Hill House we have been remembering the life of our Queen Elizabeth II. Residents have shared their memories of her, made and laid a wreath for her at a touching memorial service held here at the home, celebrated her life at our (indoor) BBQ and raised a glass in her memory as well as watching the royal coverage on television. Rest in peace Ma’am and Thank You

Monday started with residents making a beautiful memorial wreath from red, white and blue roses ready to lay at the memorial service in the afternoon.

Over on garden view we were busy making cards.

On Monday afternoon we all joined together and held a touching memorial service for the queen. Management and staff gave speeches and read poems. We joined together to sing hymns, watch short video clips, pray and lay our wreaths. Afterwards we enjoyed a hot drink as well as cakes and Paddington’s marmalade sandwiches.

Tuesday morning saw our book of condolences set up ready for residents, staff, and visitors to write in ahead of us sending it to Buckingham Palace. Anyone still wanting to send their condolences to the royal family can find the book in the entrance to Hill House until Sunday 26th September.

The rainy weather didn’t dampen our spirits as we brought the final summer BBQ indoors with delicious food and live music. The union jacks were out as we honoured our new King Charles III and celebrated the fabulous life of Her Majesty the Queen.

Wednesday morning residents got busy making a collage of images of Queen Elizabeth and reminiscing about her life, while others chose to watch royal coverage on the television.

In the afternoon we loved having crumble the dog visit as well as working on some royal themed puzzles, all while listening to our talented maintenance man Allan play piano for us.

Over on Garden view it was time to celebrate a birthday with cake, cards, and a singsong.

Thursday morning a group of us headed out to the Wyvern Pub for coffee and cakes. We were so happy to find our family and friends waiting to meet us there. Lots of laughter and smiles all round.

Off we go

Enjoying a little pampering from hairdresser Teressa is a regular Thursday treat we look forward to.

A busy Thursday afternoon, first we arranged the flowers in beautiful red, white and blue displays.

Then the cooking club got together to create an amazing and delicious union jack fruit and cream cake. which was then served along with afternoon tea and so tasty that it didn’t last long.

Congratulations to one of our lovely residents and one of our volunteers who celebrated their Diamond wedding anniversary.
