A week of remembering and reminiscing at Hill House as we celebrated world Alzheimer’s day this week, with a tea party, group social reminiscing sessions, we shared memories and stories as well as creating a pretty memory tree and forget me not flower collages. The week also started with a day of paying our respects and raising a glass to the Queen as we watched her state funeral on the big projector screen. May she rest in peace and thank you ma’am
We all came together on Monday to watch the state funeral of Queen Elizabeth II on the big screen. Staff served lunch in the main lounge, so no one had to miss any of this historic event.

The champagne and drinks were flowing in the afternoon as residents and staff all raised a glass to Her Majesty the Queen, served alongside an array of delicious treats.
On Tuesday morning in the main lounge residents shared stories of their favourite memories, writing them on the back of forget me not flower cards and hanging them on the memory tree for others to read and enjoy.
Over on Garden view a morning of jigsaw puzzles got our brains going.
Throughout the home on Tuesday afternoon residents had their covid booster injections and spent some quiet time reading the papers reflecting on the previous day’s funeral

Rev. Tara visited from the local church on Wednesday morning for our monthly church service with readings, prayers, holy communion, and lots of joyful voices raised in song as one of our residents kindly played the piano for us while we sang along to various hymns.
In the afternoon for World Alzheimer’s Day, we held an afternoon tea party and read the daily sparkle reminiscing paper together, which sparked some lively discussions on how things were in the past and it brought back some wonderful memories to share with each other.
Others chose to get creative making beautiful birthday cards.
The flower arranging group did an amazing job arranging the weekly delivery of fresh flowers on Thursday morning as well as spending time one to one with staff reading and reminiscing about the 1960s
Thursday is also our regular pamper day with visiting hairdresser, Teresa
Lots of quality one to one time with staff on Thursday afternoon as we played cards, board games and completed a jigsaw or two.

Writing to and receiving letters from family and friends is always such a pleasure and makes us feel connected to the world outside our home
Reminiscing and a quiz on Saturday morning and we tried to name the famous faces, learning about these celebrities, and remembering times when we watched them on tv or listened to them on the radio.
An afternoon of word and picture matching puzzles
A busy Saturday over on Garden View sorting through photos of recent activities and creating a new photo display to go up the lounge.
Afterwards it was time to get some fresh air and go for a walk in the gardens to pick some of the grapes we have growing there.
Sunday morning it is time for the Sunday papers and for those that wish the Sunday church service is available to watch on tv
Others chose to look through some vintage photos or have a go a wordsearch.
In the afternoon the sun was shining, and we enjoyed spending time out in the garden and by the fishpond feeding the many fish
