This week residents at Hill house have been getting involved in all activities linked with bonfire night and Guy Fawkes, from arts and crafts to a firework display like no other! Residents also engaged in our Spa experience with foot spas, hand massages and facials a truly relaxing afternoon.

Monday morning, as we celebrate Halloween itself with a marvellous game of mini golf.

Followed by spookier going on, we took part in a spider race this morning. Each having their own straw and spider we raced them across the finish line to be crowned the “Creepy Crawly Champion”.

In our gardenview lounges we spent the morning completing brain training activities from word searches to spot the differences.

That afternoon our Halloween fun and games continued with spooktacular Halloween exercise class. Osteoarthritic pain poses a significant issue for older adults, with joints and muscles becoming stiff and immobile. While an exercise regime can’t reverse all age-related joint changes, maintaining movement in muscles and joints is essential to decrease discomfort.

Followed by our Halloween Karaoke singalong, we danced in our chair while singing along to some of our favourite songs.

Our interactive pumpkin patch cart rolled around the home playing Halloween songs as it went, it was brimming with cupcakes and sugary sweet treats.

Tuesday morning, to Celebrate National Vegan Day we peeled and chopped vegetables preparing a yummy Winter Vegan Vegetable soup.

Cooking and baking are fully immersive experiences which engage all the senses. It’s a very tactile activity, which allows the experience of different textures and sensations. It encourages movement and can improve hand-eye coordination through stirring, kneading dough, and other movements.

That afternoon We immersed ourselves in the full spa experience and we loved it! We were surrounded by a relaxing atmosphere with tranquil music and gorgeous natural scents of the products we used, it brought back such fond memories of visiting a spa.

We relaxed with a facial and hydrating face mask, which aren’t only great for the skin but look the part too!! Hand massages and manicures meant everyone’s experience was personalised.

The foot baths were also included in our great list of treatments, with epsom salts and lavender to revitalise and soften the skin.

Our mini spa took place in our gardenview lounges with the same relaxing atmosphere, we listened to tranquil music and the scent of eucalyptus filled the lounge.

Wednesday morning, a game of dominoes was enjoyed in the day lounge with a group of ladies joining together.

Our Omi interactive game centre allows us to play digital games from swiping to splatting, fun reveal games, we listened to calming sounds while playing, it ignites to all our senses at once.

Activities of daily life are a great way to promote our own independence, from tending the house plants to helping make the morning tea for other.

Floor darts is a great game that brings us all together in our gardenview lounge, we throw the darts trying to build our score on the leader board with friendly competition it boosts socializing with one and other and always keeps us smiling and laughing along.

That afternoon, and with bonfire night right around the corner, we have had a fabulous afternoon making a Guy out of old clothes and lots of scrunched up newspaper ready for our upcoming firework celebrations.

Our gardenview spent the afternoon enthralled in games of dominoes. Traditional games such as Dominoes have many benefits: A fun, social activity. Handling and placing dominoes uses fine motor skills and motor-planning.

Followed by a group conversation about the history of Guy Fawkes and a group brain training word search.

Thursday morning, we gathered in our gardenview lounge for this weeks flower arranging club

Our arts and crafts group gathered in the day lounge. They created bright and bold fire work pictures inspired by this time of year.

That afternoon we watched a movie together and spent time engaged in one to one activities, from jigsaws and decorating the Guy Fawkes cart.

An incredible evening at Hill House on Thursday evening for our annual firework display. Our residents, families, staff and friends all came together to watch this fantastic display of lights that filled the skies over Ewshot.

A special Thankyou to our super star volunteers, maintenance men, kitchen team and activities coordinators who work so well together to put on events like tonight, they make it look effortless every time. Thankyou everyone for coming out in the cold to watch and we are so pleased you enjoyed the hotdogs and your hot chocolate bar.

Friday morning activities across the home saw us engage in sensory activities. We wrote cards and letters to loved ones and hand painted stunning water colour sunflowers.

Others completed shape puzzles and games following on with jigsaw puzzles.

An afternoon of exercising the mind as we played a group game of scrabble.
It is also a great excuse for friends to get together for a chat over a cup of coffee.

Saturday morning, we were busy reminiscing about next weeks themed week of remembrance and how we have taken part in the celebrations ourselves over the years.

The ration book brought back lots of memories and we were delighted to share stories of the war with everyone in the lounge.

Sunday morning while others watched the weekly streamed church service others took part in engaging in one to one actvities. We took on jigsaw puzzles and enjoyed some pampering.

That afternoon we were delighted to open cards from families we love it when they have photos of our family.

Our day lounge spent the afternoon playing Guy Fawkes Bingo.
