Throughout the week, we immersed ourselves in the vibrant spirit of St David’s Day, indulging in a variety of activities that drew inspiration from the rich Welsh culture and traditions. From crafting beautiful Welsh spoons to being serenaded by the enchanting melodies of Gareth, our talented Welsh singer, everyone was thoroughly entertained and captivated.
On Monday morning, we skilfully created beautiful paper flowers by manipulating a range of materials to form unique shapes.
Monday afternoon’s tea with Shabana, the home manager, was a delightful experience. We had a great time discussing our hobbies and the neighbourhood over tea and scrumptious cakes.
We spent the afternoon engaging in a range of exciting activities inspired by ‘The Welsh Games’. We challenged ourselves with target practices, enjoyed sheep sensory games, and even ventured across the Taff River for our last adventure game.
We decided to try our hand at making delicious Welsh cakes on a sunny Tuesday morning. With a beautiful view of our garden, we followed a step-by-step recipe and whipped up a batch of mouthwatering Welsh cakes. We couldn’t resist devouring them straight off the hot griddle.
On Tuesday morning, we delved into the art of crafting Welsh spoons, each of us envisioning shapes that held deep Celtic symbolism. From hearts symbolizing love to butterflies representing new beginnings, we embraced the meanings that resonated with our souls.
What a fantastic afternoon on Tuesday we had at our annual ‘Interhome Quiz’ held at Hill House! It was truly incredible to see teams from Hillbrow, Woodlands, Farnham Mill, and Hill House all competing for the prestigious ‘Woodbrow house cup’. I am thrilled to announce that Woodlands emerged as the champions of this year’s Quiz!
On Wednesday morning, we enjoyed playing a range of board games, from Chutes and Ladders to oversized Scrabble, while also taking strolls in the garden with our loved ones.
Board games can also enhance memory formation and help exercise cognitive skills. In fact, the National Institutes of Health recommends board games as a way to fight dementia.
Many of our ladies initially took up flower arranging as a hobby, but soon found themselves becoming the go-to florists for their local church or WI. We now host two weekly flower arranging clubs, where both ladies and gents come together to proudly showcase their creations in their homes’ vases.
Our love for our weekly music therapy classes only grows stronger. We gather to enjoy the power of music, singing and playing along to songs that are carefully chosen to inspire positive engagement and active participation.
On Leap Years Day, we enjoyed playing an engaging whiteboard game called 29 in garden view lounge, where we had to name 29 items in various categories. These types of games are excellent for keeping our minds active and alert.
Others enjoyed a morning chitchat with a magazine.
Every Thursday morning, we indulge in the delightful activity of arranging flowers with Louise while sharing stories and experiences. It’s a wonderful way to nourish our hearts and souls, leaving us feeling refreshed and surrounded by the sweet scent of blossoms.
Trio-dominoes added an extra level of enjoyment to our morning, making it an unforgettable experience.
St David’s Day wouldn’t be truly celebrated without a Welsh vocalist leading a joyful singalong. This Thursday, we immersed ourselves in the enchanting melodies of Welsh songs and tunes performed by talented Welsh singers, creating the perfect finale to St David’s Day.
Friday started in our garden view lounge with the exploration of our rummage dresser before we took on a great game of hangman.
What an extraordinary day at Hill House! We had the pleasure of hosting our adorable pygmy goat friends for a delightful pet therapy session. The residents were overjoyed as they watched these little goats trot around, showering them with love and affection. They spent quality time feeding them and even gave them gentle scratches under the chin. It was truly a remarkable experience for everyone involved!
We came together to celebrate St David’s day in a truly stylish manner. Collaborating to cook delicious Welsh cakes, ensuring the perfect mixture was created. Afterward, they enjoyed the warm Welsh cakes with a delightful addition of butter or syrup.
We indulged in a delightful afternoon tea in our garden view lounges, where we were welcomed to join our Daffodil tea gatherings to extend our St David Day festivities. Enjoying exquisite china and delicious pastries, we shared stories of our time in Wales, both living there and exploring the beautiful Welsh countryside.
We had a blast on Saturday, indulging in a range of entertaining activities, from tackling the challenging weekly giant crossword puzzle to engaging in exciting board games.
The birthday festivities on Sunday were held in honour of this charming man and his family, creating a joyful atmosphere filled with love and cherished moments spent together.
On Sunday, we had an incredible game of bingo with our very own resident bingo caller taking charge and leading the way for all of us residents. It was an absolute blast!
Some individuals dedicated their time to participating in activities focused on personal interests, such as watching TV shows on iPads.
We had an interesting rummage through the interactive dresser, trying on different items and engaging in lively conversations about our own dressers past.
The sheer joy of gathering around the table with loved ones, cherishing their presence, and indulging in a delightful dinner is simply unmatched.
