Hill House residents had an eventful week filled with excitement as they hosted their annual dog show, where dogs of all sizes and breeds were warmly welcomed. Adding to the lively atmosphere, they also celebrated Eurovision by reliving the iconic songs that have made the competition famous.
The week began with our regular residents’ meeting in the day lounge, where Director Alison discussed upcoming changes, events, and addressed any concerns raised by the residents. These meetings play a crucial role in maintaining the high standard of care and support provided.


We strongly advocate for independence and our amazing team actively supports and motivates us to be self-reliant. They encourage us to take charge of our tasks, such as assisting with the morning tea in our lovely Garden view lounges, it brought such pleasure to all.


This week, our weekly cooking clubs took an exciting twist as we geared up for our highly anticipated annual dog show.


Our residents joined forces to whip up a batch of delectable pup cakes, following a special recipe. These delightful treats are not only dog-friendly but also add a playful twist to the usual dog treats.


Our morning was truly special as we indulged in pet therapy, cuddling with kittens, hens, baby chicks, guinea pigs, rabbits, and a duck. The presence of these lovable animals brought so much happiness and peace to our surroundings.


The sight of its small paws, webbed feet, and fluffy feathers filled everyone with immense delight and anticipation.

The Hill House yearly dog show is a much-awaited occasion for all, and this year’s event was brimming with enthusiasm. The dogs flaunted their wagging tails, remarkable paws, and skills as they paraded down the dog walk to captivate the judging committee.


It was a delight to present awards to every dog present, ranging from the top dog to the most charming lady. Our panel consisted of three judges from various parts of Hill House, and we observed the dog show before disclosing our scores.


Our Wednesday morning kicked off with a variety of training games designed to boost our mental wellbeing. From word searches to memory pairs, these games are a fun way to keep our minds sharp.

Every month, Cards of Kindness delivers handmade cards filled with personalized messages and conversation starters to bring joy to our residents. We are incredibly thankful for the charity’s dedication and generosity.


While some were engrossed in the lounge in person-centred activities, others took on solving a gigantic crossword puzzle this became the morning’s main attraction.


On Wednesday afternoon, we decided to relax and stay updated with the latest news while enjoying leisurely strolls under the beautiful sunshine.


We explored a range of artistic techniques and materials in our dog-inspired painting club, resulting in vibrant and captivating dog portraits. engaging in creative activities such as painting has been proven to be a mood enhancer and improve general well-being.


Some joined a knitting group where they enjoyed lively conversations, shared stories, and even managed to get some knitting done amidst all the laughter.


Everyone’s gaze fixed on their bingo cards, fully immersed in the game of dog-themed bingo taking place at a spacious table, where a large group of participants eagerly participated.


The day began with captivating tales of courageous dogs, including one who assisted in the Iraq war to save soldiers, and researchers observing dogs’ responses to talking buttons for potential future communication methods.


Next up was a picture quiz centred around dogs, where participants had to identify the breed of each dog before discovering interesting facts about them.


Louise’s flower arranging club is a truly enchanting experience. The lounge comes alive with the sweet scent of fresh flowers as we gather together to craft our stunning floral displays.


Excitement filled the air as we anticipated the delivery of our newly constructed flowerbeds. Armed with shovels, we congregated in the garden, sharing anecdotes and gardening advice. The sun gently caressed the flowerbeds as we filled them with soil, while the breeze carried the aroma of fertile earth.

On Friday morning, we basked in the glorious summer sunshine outdoors and took care of our indoor plants. Some chose to spend their morning testing their knowledge with a fun Eurovision country flag quiz.


The air was filled with anticipation as our Eurovision extravaganza began. We opted for an incredible ABBA-inspired celebration, featuring live performances and non-stop dancing. The energy was contagious, and everyone embraced the Eurovision vibe, eagerly preparing for the ultimate watch party.


Both the staff and residents went all out, donning fantastic themed costumes that added an extra touch of fun to the festivities.

The morning of Saturday kicked off with a range of brain-boosting exercises. Some of us took on the challenges solo, while others competed with caregivers to see who could complete them first.


As we gathered in the lounge with our loved ones, we enjoyed a mix of captivating mental activities, all while basking in the warmth of the sun outside.


The Eurovision fever swept through the town, bringing together locals for a delightful garden tea party under the warm sun. As we indulged in delicious cakes and sipped on tea, our afternoon was filled with Eurovision trivia and a lively sing-along to the iconic ABBA hits.

The Garden view lounges were transformed into a vibrant dance floor as our rolling Eurovision cart made its grand entrance, inspiring everyone to embrace their inner dancing queen.


The vibrant music had a contagious effect, with people joyfully getting up and immersing themselves in the party atmosphere. It was truly a sight to behold!

Sunday morning church services were broadcasted at Hill Home, either on the TV screen in the day lounge or on an iPad for a more intimate experience.


Our unique Dementia Sunday gathering in the garden setting catered to individuals who enjoy flexibility, offering a blend of music, happiness, and opportunities for contemplation.

We enjoyed some quality time in the garden, basking in the warm sunshine until the predicted rain arrived. There’s something truly delightful about sitting outdoors, surrounded by the melodious chirping of birds perched on the trees.
