This week was a special one for us as we honoured our Royal Family and paid tribute to the 80th Anniversary of D-Day. To mark the occasion, we organized a delightful royal tea party in our beautiful courtyard garden and arranged a visit to the nearby military museum. Our residents enjoyed staying active and healthy by participating in invigorating exercise classes.

We kicked off the week with our monthly residents meeting hosted by Alison in the main lounge.

The lovely residents found solace and joy in our courtyard garden, where they savoured a cup of tea in the company of good friends.

The day started with a cosy coffee gathering where we caught up on the latest news and chatted about the upcoming election, sparking an exciting debate among us.

Throughout the morning, we actively participated in a range of activities that were tailored to each individual’s preferences and interests. These included engaging with the morning post and exploring the diverse collection of books available in our in-house library.

As we delved into the world of royalty this week, we came together to immerse ourselves in the rich history of the royal family. Exploring the treasures within our royal box, we reminisced and absorbed the fascinating memorabilia before embarking on an entertaining royal-themed quiz.

On Tuesday afternoon, we welcomed the dementia choir into the lounge. Our choir has formed strong bonds within the group, and we all enjoy gathering to sing our beloved songs and hymns together.

The grand finale of our choir performances always involves an incredible dance number, whether we’re swaying in our chairs or dazzling the audience with our dance floor skills.

Every Tuesday afternoon, we come together for personalized physiotherapy individual sessions and group sessions throughout the facility. It’s an opportunity for us to focus on enhancing our physical abilities and strengths.

We reminisced about our previous summer vacations and beach days, flipping through photos and reliving the joyful moments.

As the 80th anniversary of D-day drew near, we visited the Museum of Military Medicine located at the nearby army base this week.

We kicked off our Wednesday morning with an amazing chair-based exercise session. With lively music playing in the background, we stretched and grooved in a delightful manner, making fitness a joyful experience.

We dedicated our time to arranging the stunning flowers into vases, filling the room with delightful floral fragrances and vibrant hues.

Others enjoyed the excitement of interactive puzzle games and engaging activities designed to stimulate critical thinking and enhance problem-solving skills.

As we honour the approaching D-day anniversary, we reflect on the historical significance of the day before exchanging our wartime experiences and memories. The heartfelt stories we shared were poignant reflections of a challenging era.

In the lounge, volunteer Mike hosted an intense game of Scrabble that put our word skills to the test and had us competing to boost our scores.

Thursday started with a delightful cockney rhyming slang game, which filled the room with laughter and nostalgia. It was a wonderful reminder of the charming words and phrases we had long forgotten, such as ‘up the apple and pears’.

The royal family picture bingo turned out to be a phenomenal triumph! It was an absolute delight to catch a glimpse of each family member’s face while we enthusiastically played to complete our bingo cards.

Thursday’s afternoon event was a lively Pub sing-along, drawing inspiration from royalty and London. We joyfully sang and danced to beloved classics like “Knees Up Mother Brown” and “Under the Arches.”

The atmosphere in our Garden View lounge on Friday morning was electric as balloon tennis games took centre stage. With each hit, the balloon soared from player to player, creating a whirlwind of laughter and excitement.

As we gathered around a steaming cup of tea, our regal crossword challenged our knowledge. With friends by our side, we united as a team to conquer the puzzle, working together to find the answers.

We came together for arts and crafts, crafting crowns fit for royalty. Being creative gives us a chance to unleash our imaginations.

As the weather cleared up, we decided to host a royal garden tea party in the courtyard gardens. We invited residents from all over the home to enjoy good company, tea, coffee, and a delicious variety of cakes.

As the sun shone brightly, we came together with loved ones, sharing stories of war times and enjoying each other’s company.

Our knitting and chatting session in the morning was quite enjoyable.

The weekend began with a session of chair exercises in the common area. Staying physically active as we get older is crucial for preserving our autonomy and mobility.

Our Sunday was filled with an array of exciting activities throughout the day. We gathered in our cosy Garden View lounge and had a blast playing a lively game of dominoes. Some of us had the pleasure of spending quality time with our beloved Pet Therapy dog, Tinkerbell, while others engaged in a thrilling round of trivial pursuit. It was a delightful day of fun and companionship at our home.
