This week was themed to celebrate the last night of BBC Proms. The residents participated in musical quizzes, crafted some 3D union flags, and made their own musical instruments.

On Monday in the main lounge, we used glue and tissue paper to craft a textured representation of the Union Jack flag.

In the garden view lounge, we spent the morning playing a giant game of snakes and ladders. We rolled the over-sized dice on the floor and competed to reach the finish line as fast as possible.

In the afternoon, we had a proms night themed tea party in the main lounge. It was well-attended, and a great opportunity to properly welcome some of our new neighbours.

In the garden view lounge, we were expressing our musical talent by composing melodies on a xylophone. We used percussive instruments to get a beat going, and together we made some groovy tunes.

On Tuesday morning in the garden view lounge, we made our own musical instruments with plastic tubs, rubber bands, a lick of paint and a dusting of glitter.

Once we’d finished crafting, we gave our new instruments a try!

Meanwhile, in the main lounge, the cooking club was beginning. Today’s recipe? Scones!

In the afternoon, we all got together for a very special meeting of the Dementia Choir. The choir’s founder, Bryony, put together a heartwarming slideshow of pictures and videos showcasing our most memorable moments. It was lovely to look back at our time in the choir which has meant so much to us.

On Wednesday morning, we started off the day with a quiz. In line with our Night at the Proms theme, the quiz tested our knowledge of music and musical history. We got some of the answers, but others eluded even the most astute among us!

We followed the quiz with a challenging crossword.

In the garden view lounge, Simon came in and taught us some slick moves in our regular ballroom dancing class.

Meanwhile, some of us took a trip to Farnham Park, where we had a lovely cup of tea and slice of cake at the café.

On Thursday morning, Julie did the rounds with some nail care equipment and gave us manicures. It was soothing to have our nails taken care of and embellished.

Later that morning we had a residents meeting, where we were informed and consulted on the general running of the home. Managers from all departments spoke to us about our care, living conditions, and entertainment.

After the residents meeting, we had the pleasure of doing some flower arranging. Flower arranging is very much a favourite of all the activities, so the team make sure we get to do it at least once a week.

In the afternoon, we all came together to see this week’s entertainer. He sung, played the guitar, and played the saxophone. It was very exciting!

On Friday morning in the main lounge, we played a lively game of blackjack. We used giant playing cards so that those of us who struggle with our eyesight could still see what cards they had. It was a very competitive game!

Meanwhile in the garden view lounge, cooking club were rustling up a delicious vegetable pasta dish.

We then had a lunch party and ate our homemade pasta dish together. We topped it with grated cheese, and it tasted delicious!

In the afternoon, those of us in the main lounge played a head-scratching game of floor trivial pursuit. We threw beanbags in an attempt to land them on the topics we wanted to answer questions for. It was both a physical challenge and a mental one!

On Saturday morning, we worked as a team to complete two giant crosswords. They were challenging at times, which made them all the more satisfying to complete.

In the afternoon, we took part in a Google Workshop. Julie taught us how to use Google Maps to find and admire places that are special to us.

Sunday morning was a time for worship for many of us. We participated in a dementia-friendly service, which involved lots of singing and dancing!

In the afternoon in the garden view lounge, we used handheld blackboards to play noughts a crosses. The tournament lasted all afternoon, and eventually we crowned a winner!
