On Monday morning, we kicked off the week with a baking-themed picture quiz. We were presented with pictures of baked goods and asked to identify them by sight alone! Some of them were easy, but others had us scratching our chins for a minute.
In the afternoon in garden view lounge, Chef Steve guided us through the process of baking some delicious deserts.
On Tuesday morning, we played baking-bingo! We love these whimsical-themed bingo games. They give a classic game a fresh coat of paint.
In the afternoon while our friends in the main lounge enjoyed some painting, those of us in garden view lounge had fun playing with the Omni-Interactive projector. It doesn’t photograph well, but the interactive projection is very effective and engaging!
On Wednesday morning, some of us went on an outing to Guildford Cathedral. The building was beautiful and very impressive. There was art displayed on the walls, and we were able to explore the armoury and admire the Cathedral’s precious artifacts. Afterwards, we sat down for a hot drink and a slice of cake to recuperate our energies.
In the afternoon, we baked a fruit cake that we would later enter in to the Great Inter-home Bake-Off Competition on Friday. We love cooking club, and it was all the more exciting to know that our baking would be judged in a high stakes competition!
On Thursday morning, Chef Steve helped us decorate our competition cake. We wanted desperately to win, so we gave it everything we’ve got!
On Friday, we hosted the Great British Inter-Home Bake Off. Residents from Hill Brow, Farnham Mill, and Woodlands all made the pilgrimage to submit their cakes for consideration. Once we’d all had our refreshments, the judging commenced. One representative from each home was selected to join the judging panel in the name of fairness. Once the judges had come to a conclusion, the winner was announced….. “Farnham Mill”.
On Saturday morning in garden view lounge, we had yet another cooking club! It was wonderful to do so much cooking this week, as its one of our favourite activities.
In the afternoon, we all came together to see the energetic Jolly Gilly put on an incredible performance. She danced with each of us, and pulled off brilliant costume changes all while singing, dancing, and even juggling!
On Sunday morning, Steve walked us through the process of making the perfect Christmas cake. It was enormous, and it took all of us to whip it into shape. We’re all looking forward to devouring it come Christmas time.
